Blog for Piano Class

I noodle around on the piano for at least an hour every day. This does not mean I sound even remotely tolerable--my siblings are always horribly annoyed--but it’s fun. My mother gave me a compliment last week: “You’re almost as good as your brother was 10 years ago.” This made me feel very flattered, of course.
“Ring Dance” was sight readable and quite easy, until I saw the tempo marking. Quarter note=144. Gah. So, I started at about 80, and played it through a few times. Then I turned the Metro Gnome up a notch. I repeated this process until I was confident at 144, and to my (not) surprise, I also had the piece memorized.
I never think about scales. They are Evil.
Harmonization is generally fine, although I gravitate toward medieval-ish folk songs, which I like with perfect fifths and octaves. I have a great love for loud sustained bass notes. They sound ominous.
More performance assignments like “Ring Dance” would be good, as that piece forced me to improve my playing.
